Watch: This revolutionary technology is changing the world for kids born without limbs

That’s awesome and I’m sure its way cheaper than a prosthetic, but seriously it cannot be cheap to 3d print something that big…

this one 17 year old guy 3d printed an entire arm and shoulder for himself and it cost him $250

this seven year old girl got half an arm (just like lusie in the gifs) 3d printed and it only cost $50

can we just compare that with the average price of buying a prosthetic

3d printing is gonna help so many people holy crap

No no no, guys, this gif set leaves out the literal best stuff from the video.

So a few years back, this guy who accidentally cut off his fingers, teamed up with a special effects artist/puppeteer and created a 3D printable prosthetic hand, that used the movement of the wearer to be able to grab things. The guys who did this said they were just going to post the schematics online, which in turn lead to creating a network of people with 3D printers, who were willing to print prosthetics for people. The network of volunteers, turned into an organization that gives prosthetic arms/hands to kids who need them. They have science types improving the designs and creating new ones, they got a grant from Google, classrooms and scout troops are getting involved and making prosthetic hands for people.

Everything about this is amazing.

It’s stuff like this that makes technology awesome :’)

savage-words:

Why do you think writers isolate themselves? Why do you think painters finish most their projects on their knees? Art hurts. It cuts and bleeds and demands to be felt to the fullest extent. But when you surrender to it, that’s when beauty arises from the remnants. That’s when you can drown yourself in nights of forgetting and reckless abandon. But until then, let it hurt and remember what will come of this pain.

Apollo: Sister, what are you the goddess of?

Artemis: *lounging by a spring on piles of deerskin surrounded by three dozen naked girls with a dead pan expression* Virginity.

“Heracles, they’re lesbians”.

Note that the concept of “virginity” in Ancient times merely meant “unmarried”, and had nothing to do with sexual activity. Some priestesses were “virgins” because they chose (or were committed to) a life of worship, but it was merely a question of social status, not of personal choice or practice. Of course, one can suppose that this lifestyle would be rather attractive for lesbians.

So when Artemis is said to be the Goddess of Virgins, it is meant to be understood as “Goddess of Unmarried Women”, or, quite possibly literally, of lesbians.

(It’s only Christianity that reframed the concept of virginity to mean “never had sex”. Many ancient religions has “Virgin goddesses”, which symbolized feminine power, and in this case too it meant “untied to a man”, or “whole for herself”)

so i think we can all agree that 2018 has been a bitch. it’s been a long, difficult road for many of us in a million and one ways. personally, it has been one of the hardest years of my life. i hit this giant milestone on this blog right around the same time as i was going through a breakdown and these tears pinpricked my eyes because what the hell, there are people who exist who care about you in even the tiniest of ways. even after everything horrible you might feel or the tragedies have gone through in the past year, there are miniscule things and very real, big people that make it worthwhile.

what a relief that we have each other, min yoongi said, and what a relief we are here on this hellsite to find each other.

it has been hard. so, so hard. but i am still here, and so are you, and we are going to make it through this thing together, yeah?  whether we want to or not, we are going to endure and we are going to survive and we are going to kick the new year’s ass.

i wish you all the happiest of days in 2019 and the knowledge that no matter what, you are worthy of so much more than you could ever dream possible. thank you all for being here for me and many others by simply existing as a comforting presence. you are so, so loved. ♡

mosaics-of-the-heart:

I am realllly loving this trend in Korean dramas where the men are just goddam principled, nice, respectful and supportive romantic leads. I was so over that shitty tsundere assholes trend. They usually had zero redeeming qualities and just rained on the heroine’s parade. How typical dramas used to start (some still do) the guy is a cold, overconfident mother fucker and the girl is a sweet, poor girl who introduces him to love and makes him a nicer person. Like fuck that shit. That’s not a woman’s job in a romantic relationship.
So I am very happy to see a departure from that with leads like Jung Joon-hyung (Weightlifting Fairy) and Yoo Ji Shin (Descendant of Sun).
Don’t be an asshole. Be supportive, caring and get yourself a partner who isn’t afraid to challenge you and grow with you.
